Self Improvement is ruining your life “Sign out Now from this Malarkey Movement “

Is it self-improvement or Self Destruction? If you care to know then let’s get to the core.

Self Improvement is the most prominent lie people keep selling us time after time.

Be it pre-pandemic or post-pandemic. There are always self-improvement talks on the internet

I was watching a Ted Talk from Suzanne Eder ( Award-winning writer, teacher, and Speaker)

On The Dark Side of Self Improvement. Yes read it again,” DARK SIDE

You know why it’s Dark because, with these Self Improvement BS, you begin to think that something is wrong with you. There is something in you that needs desperate improvement.

Well, that’s not true, there is nothing wrong with you, you got everything you need to do anything you want in your life.

It’s just that you have been lured by this “Self-improvement Movement “.

You need self-actualization, not self-improvement.

You were improved enough the movement you were born.

Why Do You Even Need Self-Improvement Anyways?

Self Improvement is there to help you not for you to sign up for another social media Crap club. You think about it like this. You are putting all your energy into reaching a point where you no longer feel the need for improvement.

Is that what you want?

Self-improvement means a consistent effort to improve yourself in a specific area of your life.

Let me give you an example, You want to become more productive and for that, you hope on to the bus of self-improvement ( with no idea about the end road)

It’s like pursuing a happy relationship when you no longer feel the need to be in a happy relationship.

Self-improvement is a spooky way to achieve self-actualization.

The real way to reach your greatest potential is through self-actualization only. It’s a great way to become aware of your abilities.

Self-improvement is not taking you on the road towards self-fulfillment. It will only pick you up and abandon you somewhere in the middle.

Although self-actualization will go with you forever. Thus, you don’t need to be improved but be self-aware.

And now coming back to the promise I made in the headline.

There are three disastrous dark sides of Self Improvement

1. Impulsive Input With No Output

My symbolic personal story of self-improvement journey. I was no exception, I was obsessed with self-improvement too. Let me tell you a short back story.

I quit my job in 2019 for educational purposes but I could not pursue that. By yearend, I was nothing but an unemployed loser. And what is the next best thing a defeated person does, They crave self-help”

I read almost every content available on the web, read books, and watch videos and movies too. I left no stone unturned. And to some level delf improvement did make me happy. I was no longer sad, I was positive. I wanted to fly just like they show in the sanitary pad commercial ( LOL)

I was under a misapprehension that Iam self improved, Iam better, Iam content & positive so Now iam unstoppable, I got everything I need to become successful.

But no I was none of that instead I was a self-sufficient delusional douche.

My self-improvement journey made me lazy in fact, I was sitting inside the bubble never getting out and doing the real work. I failed to take action.

And that is where I realized I have to pause as I was missing in action. The process of self-improvement prevented me from doing things, I was sitting inside the bubble waiting for things to happen miraculously.

2. Praying for a promised Land

There ain’t no Barack Obama coming to take you to the promised land ( I wish there was as we need more and more people like him ). Self-improvement makes you delusional as you wish for things that have no physical existence.

You want to get to the finish line hoping to reach the promised land. There is no finish line, there is no promised land. No!

You start believing that once you are self-improved you will achieve all your goals, and you will be in such shape that you won’t be needing any reshaping. But the reality is different. There is no end point Is there?

Do you want to stop growing when you think you have self-improved enough?

I guess No.

You crave for growth, I crave for growth but this entire process of improving yourself prevents you from growing You no longer enjoy the journey, all you want is the final destination.

But there is no final destination, the only final destination of humans is “ Death”. And believe me, when I say, we all are getting closer to it every day.

Then why rush, relax and embrace the journey.

You have come so far, pet yourself on the back, and celebrate those small battles you won.

There is gone be No war ( I wish ) so just stop preparing for that.

Enjoy small wins, drink water, and love your family.

3. Care for Credibility

Credibility does matter. If I read an article online or a book, I look up the background of the writer/author as you must know whether a person is authorized enough.

And by authority, I certainly don’t mean “ High credit “ It means if he is someone to listen to. Does he an expert in that field? Did he experience what he vouch for?

All iam trying to convey is when someone is talking about self-improvement, transformation, and stuff make sure they are authorized enough. The internet is overloaded with self-proclaimed self-improvement gurus, don’t fall into the trap.

Be sure your author is quoting facts and has authority on the issue.

Recently I saw a post on Linkedin from a writer ( The self-help gurus) he was advocating self-improvement as the only way to live a happy life, he rephrased some other authors’ thoughts and declared to be a self-guru.

I was not angry but upset seeing how people are promoting self-improvement as a movement.

You don’t need self-improvement, trust me. But if you feel the need to become a better version then do it. But my friend that is self-actualization, not an improvement.

Why do you want to reach the point in your life where you no longer feel the need to grow?

Quit self-improvement as its staggering bulsshit from these self-help billionaire industries. Self-improvement is a noble and worthwhile try. If you want to succeed, avoid these three pitfalls.

Life is a journey ( cliche but true)

As Albert Einstein said “ Life is like a bicycle. To keep a balance you have to keep moving “
